Building your own home in Scotland is one of the most rewarding things you can do — and one of the most complex. Murphy Project Management provides MCIOB-qualified self build project management across Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling and all of Scotland.
We deliberately limit the number of self build projects we take on at any one time so every client gets Michael's full attention — from plot assessment and planning warrant through to final snagging and handover.
Every project is managed directly by Michael Murphy — MCIOB qualified with 18 years of hands-on construction experience. We deliberately limit the projects we take on so every client gets our full attention.
We review your plot, coordinate with your architect and structural engineer, and ensure your plans are buildable and cost-effective before a single brick is laid.
We source, vet and appoint the right contractors for your self build — from groundworkers through to joiners, plumbers and electricians.
Day-to-day site management — overseeing contractors, resolving issues before they escalate, and ensuring every phase meets the required standard.
Full snagging inspection at practical completion, all Scottish building regulation certificates in order, and a complete documentation pack.
Michael holds the MCIOB qualification from the Chartered Institute of Building — one of the highest credentials in the UK construction industry.
Started as a joiner, worked across construction sites in Scotland for nearly two decades. Understands every aspect of a build from the ground up.
We deliberately cap the number of projects we take on. Every client gets Michael's full attention — not divided focus across too many jobs at once.
Based in Glasgow, covering Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Stirling and all of Scotland.
Day rate or 10–15% of build cost, paid in monthly instalments. No large upfront fees, no hidden costs.

Not legally — but most self build projects in Scotland that run over budget or programme do so because of poor coordination and lack of professional oversight. A self build project manager pays for themselves many times over by preventing costly mistakes and catching quality issues early.
We charge either a bespoke day rate or 10–15% of your total build cost, paid in monthly instalments. For most self builds the percentage option works best. The cost is almost always recovered through better budget control and avoiding overcharges.
Ideally as early as possible — even at plot assessment or planning stage. The earlier we are involved, the more value we can add. We can also step in mid-build if your project needs rescuing.
